Our client, a an architectural firm specializing in multifamily, is seeking a highly experienced Architectural Director with deep expertise in NYC multifamily projects to oversee and mentor project managers, improve layout efficiency, and ensure full compliance with city codes and standards.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for guiding project managers through complex design and planning processes, editing architectural plans, and offering expert insights that lead to better outcomes in space utilization, compliance, and construction feasibility.
Responsibilities:
Review and refine architectural drawings and submittals created by project managers, ensuring design accuracy and feasibility.
Provide expert guidance on NYC multifamily code compliance, zoning laws, and DOB filing standards.
Advise on improved layout and design strategies to maximize unit functionality.
Serve as a senior reviewer and editor of project documentation, ensuring deliverables meet both internal standards and regulatory requirements.
Mentor project managers on best practices in architectural planning, constructability, and site coordination.
Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to resolve layout or design conflicts before build-out.
Participate in early-stage planning meetings to influence design direction based on experience with successful multifamily builds.
Monitor project phases to ensure design continuity and consistency throughout development and construction.
Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in architectural design for multifamily residential buildings in New York City.
Expert knowledge of NYC Building Code, zoning regulations, DOB filing procedures, and related compliance requirements.
Proven experience overseeing or mentoring project managers or junior architects on large-scale developments.
Strong eye for design and space planning, with a track record of optimizing layouts for both tenant experience and cost efficiency.
Proficiency in architectural software such as AutoCAD, Revit, etc.
Ability to review and redline architectural drawing sets with precision and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in giving constructive design feedback and compliance recommendations.
