The Thermoforming & Injection Blow Molding Technician is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining plastics manufacturing equipment to ensure efficient production of high-quality parts. This role requires strong mechanical ability, technical troubleshooting skills, and strict adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Set up, operate, and monitor thermoforming machines according to production schedules
Adjust machine parameters such as heating zones, vacuum, pressure, and cycle times
Load plastic sheet material, oversee forming cycle, and perform trimming operations
Inspect finished parts for quality, dimensions, and surface defects
Troubleshoot issues such as uneven forming, webbing, thinning, or incomplete molds
Conduct routine cleaning and minor mechanical maintenance
Injection Blow Molding (IBM) Operations
Operate and set up injection blow molding machines, including start-ups and shut-downs
Perform mold changes, material changes, and equipment adjustments as needed
Monitor injection and blowing processes (temperature, pressure, injection speed, cooling, etc.)
Inspect products for defects such as flash, short shots, warpage, or incorrect bottle neck finish
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and process-related problems to maintain consistent output
Keep accurate logs of machine settings, production counts, downtime, and adjustments
Quality & Safety Responsibilities
Follow and enforce all workplace safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements
Ensure compliance with company quality standards and customer specifications
Perform in-process inspections and document results according to QC guidelines
Maintain a clean and organized work area
Report equipment issues or process deviations promptly to supervision or maintenance
Required Skills & Qualifications
1 3 years of experience in thermoforming, injection blow molding, or related plastics manufacturing
Strong understanding of machine operation, mechanical systems, and production workflows
Ability to read and interpret production instructions, spec sheets, and basic technical drawings
Good problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment and process issues
Basic math skills and familiarity with measurement tools (calipers, gauges, micrometers)
Ability to work independently and as part of a production team
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with specific machine brands (e.g., Brown, Sencorp, Kiefel, Aoki, Uniloy, Jomar, etc.)
Knowledge of thermoplastics such as PET, PP, HDPE, PVC, or ABS
Understanding of 5S, lean manufacturing, and ISO quality systems
Basic maintenance or mechanical repair background
